Trondheim has decided that the tolling system will be turned off December 31 2005. Then the agreed tolling period of 15 years for the Trondheim Package has come to an end. There is a local debate about new RUC initiatives, but nothing is decided. All the roadside equipment will be scrapped, but the OBU (AutoPass) in the cars will still be useful in other Norwegian tolling systems. The AutoPass is a national standard securing interoperability.
Trondheim will be the first city ever to stop collecting tolls.
