In 2004 Bristol was asked to develop a transport plan together with 3 neighboring municipalities. As Bristol municipal only covers a part of the built-up area, which is the actual Bristol city, such a combined transport plan makes good sense. The consequence of this is, however, that the process of introducing road pricing in Bristol now has to start from the beginning. This is because one of the questions to be studied in connection with the transport plan is whether or not road pricing should be used at all. If Bristol succeeds in getting road pricing in as part of the transport plan, they will have the opportunity of applying for governmental funds available from 2008 to establish road pricing.
