Road pricing for lorries postponed

The Minister of Taxation, Troels Lund Poulsen, has decided to postpone the collection of road pricing for lorries for at least a year. The plan was to introduce the tax in the middle of 2012, but the Minister now states that it will be in 2013 at the earliest. The reason for the postponement is problems with the technology. Denmark has been a forerunner regarding IC4-trains and the digital registration without success, and the Minister of Taxation does not wish to implement a system that might not work from day one. He, therefore, finds it necessary to postpone the project.

The postponement has been made just a few days after the road pricing for cars was abandoned; also due to bad experiences with implementing new technology as the first one.

The revenue from the road pricing should have been used to lower the personal tax but now the government must find the revenue to finance the Spring Package elsewhere.
