Since June 19. Bologna has been charging incoming traffic to an area covering 3.2kmÂ² of the inner city. Bologna situated on the po , where the well kept historic centre full of narrow streets and winding alleys have halted the flow of traffic. Bologna, situated on the Padan Plain, is the capital of the region Emilia-Romagna and home to around 800.000 people. With the rise of traffic, Bologna has suffered from severe congestion caused mainly by it’s narrow streets and winding alleys. This finally lead the city council to react and create the current system, which serves to limit traffic in the inner city.
