Overview of the toll charge for trucks

Trucks of 12 tons and above

As of 1 January 2025, trucks of 12 tons and above are to pay road toll based on how much CO2 they emit.

Truck of 3.5 tons and above

It is the intention of the Danish government that the road toll will apply to trucks of 3.5 tons and above as of 1 January 2027.

The public road network

As of 1 January 2025 the toll applies to driving on the main part of the state road network and parts of the municipal road network (in total approx. 10,900 km). It is the intention of the Danish government that the road toll will apply to the entire Danish public road network as of 1 January 2028 (approx. 75,000 km).

Testing on the Danish roads

Preparations are in progress to ensure user-friendly solutions prior to 1 January 2025 when trucks over 12 tons are to pay road toll.

As an example, vehicles have been driving on Danish roads in order to test the calculation solution for on-board units in terms of different CO2 emission classes and vehicle weights. Over 1,500 kilometres have already been driven on Danish roads to test different road segments both in cities and in the countryside.

The law on road toll

The Danish Parliament passed the law proposal concerning road toll on 1 June 2023. The law became effective on 1 July 2023 and with effect 1 January 2025.
